Artificial Intelligence Policy

Artificial Intelligence Policy

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is permitted under specific conditions, in accordance with the principles of TÜBİTAK and the provisions of the “Ethical Guidelines on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research and Publication Activities at Higher Education Institutions.” AI may be utilized for supportive activities such as literature review and summarization, grammar and style enhancement, translation, coding, and debugging. However, it is mandatory for the applicant to review and verify the outputs generated by AI. Given that AI can generate incorrect or non-existent academic sources, any generated references must be cross-checked against original sources.

One of the most critical principles is the requirement to disclose the use of AI. If AI tools are employed during the writing of articles or other types of scientific publications, such usage must be declared. This ensures transparency regarding the purpose, stage, and extent of AI utilization. This approach is essential for maintaining accountability and trust in research processes.

The journal’s policy regarding artificial intelligence is subject to review and modification to align with technological advancements and evolving academic standards. For matters not covered by these rules, the provisions of the “Ethical Guidelines on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research and Publication Activities at Higher Education Institutions (2024)” shall apply.

Guidelines for Authors

The author(s) bear(s) sole responsibility for the content, accuracy, and originality of the work submitted to the journal.

AI tools may be used only for limited purposes, such as drafting abstracts or extended abstracts, grammar checking, and literature reviews. The use of AI is permissible within the framework of ethical guidelines, provided it does not compromise the originality of the article. AI tools must not be used for unethical purposes, such as data fabrication or manipulation.

If a violation is detected after publication, corrective actions—such as publishing a correction or retracting the article—may be taken. Repeated or serious violations of this policy may result in the rejection of future submissions from the authors.

Guidelines for Reviewers

Reviewers are prohibited from inputting the manuscripts submitted to them—or any information related to those manuscripts—into generative AI tools or other AI-based platforms.

If reviewers determine that the text produced by the author(s) violates our AI policy, they must state this in their reports.

Guidelines for Editors

If editors identify any concerns or risks regarding AI usage, they should—in accordance with the journal’s relevant policies—request explanatory information or supporting evidence from the authors when deemed necessary; matters requiring further scrutiny should be referred to the journal’s management for formal evaluation.
